The following examples demonstrate how this tool can be used in realistic scenarios.
A Monday shift runs from 09:00 to 17:00 and requires one employee. If Employee A is available Monday from 08:00 to 18:00 and has enough remaining weekly capacity, Employee A can be assigned to the shift.
A Friday evening shift requires three employees. If five employees can fully cover the shift, SwiftVecto selects three suitable employees while considering their existing assigned workload.
If Employee A is marked Available all day on Tuesday, a Tuesday shift from 10:00 to 18:00 can be assigned to that employee provided no other scheduling restriction prevents the assignment.
A shift runs from 09:00 to 17:00 but Employee A is available only from 09:00 to 13:00. Employee A is not considered eligible because the employee cannot cover the complete shift.
If Employee A has already been assigned Monday 09:00-17:00, SwiftVecto will not assign the same employee to another Monday shift from 13:00-18:00 because the two assignments overlap.
A shift ending at 13:00 and another beginning at 13:00 do not overlap. An employee may therefore be eligible for both if their availability and weekly hour limit allow it.
If Employee A has already been assigned 36 hours and has a 40-hour weekly limit, SwiftVecto will not assign an additional 8-hour shift because that would increase the employee total to 44 hours.
A shift requires three employees but only two eligible employees can be assigned. SwiftVecto marks the shift as Partially Filled and reports one unfilled position.
A night shift requires one employee but nobody is available for the complete period. The shift is marked Unfilled so the staffing problem can be addressed manually.
If Employees A and B are both eligible for a shift but Employee A already has more assigned working time, the generator can prefer Employee B to help distribute the workload more evenly.
If one shift has only two eligible employees while another has six, SwiftVecto considers the more restricted shift first so flexible employees are less likely to be consumed by easier-to-fill work.
A Sunday shift from 22:00 to 06:00 continues into Monday morning. An employee must have continuous availability covering the full overnight period before being considered eligible.
